How do I get rid of an anthill?

The whole reason for the selfsufficientish website was to offer a place where anyone can ask, HOW DO I...? So who knows why it has taken us so long to have a HOW DO I? section, but here it is. So if you want to know how to do anything selfsufficientish then here is the place to ask.

My friend Joan is 68 and has a massive anthill in her back yard and ants coming into the house?

Will borax alone do the job?

they dont like boiling water - we also use louse powder that is designed for horses (also good for wasps nests), probably horribly unecofriendly but better than being overrun
