Tea Bags

That'll explain it then - I stopped my husband from putting tea bags into the compost several years ago as I was fed up with picking empty tea bags out of my garden as they just didn't rot down (I don't drink tea). I have a feeling that was possibly PG Tips - nowadays the tea bags are made by T**** - I wonder if they'd rot or not?

When I get back to england might do some experiments with Yorkshire Tea, unless someone else has tried them?

Back when I was first at uni (eh, 1985 ), we had green bins outside halls. But that was Germany... And our uni was actually involved in the prototype commercial composting plant.

I usually get sainsburys red box tea bags (all their own-brand tea is fair-trade) and they rot down fine.

I have never had a tea bag that didn't rot down.

I always buy fair-trade (really widely available these days) and I do try to get organic but I can't always justify the cost. I have never bought any of the regular brands (PG tips, Typoo, Tetley, Yorkshire, etc, etc)

My bags often don't seem to rot down, so I put them in a tray on the window sill to dry, then split them open and add to compost or just sprinkle on the garden.

Heres what i do with my used teabags i sprinkle eucalyptus oil on em and lay a few round the soil to keep cats off and the rest i thrown under my azaleas or camillias with the crushed eggshells

??? do cats not like eucalyptus oil. My little darling in scratching my stair carpet...
