Newbie says hi, and rambles about brambles.....

Post: # 165924Post Sparkygirf »

Good Morning All,
I've just joined the site - made up to see other peeps like me. Sometimes feel like the odd one out at work, don't go clubbing, shopping, HATE trying on new clothes!!! Like charity shops, 'cos I certainly don't follow fashion, but can "work" my own individual style by buying what catches my eye and fits!!!
By the by, don't you just love those women in Charity shops who take something to the counter and ask if they have it in a different colour or size? They just don't get it.
I grew up watching my Dad garden, and also watching "The Good Life" , which would now appear to be seminal factors in how I am as an adult (in years only - still feel 18 inside, but with none of the angst!!!)
Sparkygirf and Sparkygirf's Boyf are luckily in tandem in thoughts and ideas - I have the whole veggie plot, bee friendly plants and flowers adn am totally delighted to now discover I also have ladybirds!!Also hedgerow jam, yum. Him has an eco shelter in the making - reclaimed bits and bobs (like poles!) and offcuts from sawmills (ask for "slabbies" - they just pulp them, the curved ends of trees they've cut into boards - xlnt cedar etc (2 Luton vans full) for cost of said van (check out http://www.anoomi.co.uk to see shelter).
Off now for more brambles (jelly) an rosehips (syrup). Does anyone know just how long bramble jelly keeps - recipes say "not long" - could they keep for chrissie pressies?
Cheerio for now x

Hi and welcome!

Bramble jelly should keep for years like any other jelly or jam as long as you've put it hot into sterilised jars. What recipe are you using cos that's really an odd thing to say.

Welcome to ISH :flower:

The recipe I use for bramble & elderberry jelly lasts about 12 months...so long as I hide the jars!

What is 'off' jam though, other than mouldy? How do you know when it has gone past it? Mine doesn't!

I think the comment may have meant that it isn't possible to keep it long because it gets eaten  quickly.

The OP was asking whether it would keep long enough to give away as Xmas presents so I don't think she actually meant that. However she's never come back so we'll never know! I do get a bit peeved when someone comes on a forum, asks a question, people bother to reply and then they never come back again.

Edit: I've looked at her profile and she hasn't even logged back on to the site since the initial posting!

Hi Sparkygirf and welcome. :flower:

I went on to your site briefly (I am at work afterall, ) and I just wanted to say that I loved the bodhran. I just love them and try to get one everytime I am in Ireland.
