It's been close a couple of days but not real frost - just cold air. Seems to have crept back into double figures supposedly as we might be getting rain.

Working down in a valley this morning (Ascott under Wychwood, Oxon), good frost on the ground, grass all white, but the ground underneath hadn't frozen. Van outside temp gauge showed a rise from 0c up to 2c as I climbed out of the valley. The old ones tales about cold air rolling down the hills are true.

First frost here this morning. I harvested and canned the chilis a couple of days ago, so I'm all right for now. I just hope my peas survive (planted 1st Sept.).

Re: Anyone had a frost yet?
I've been watching this thread with interest. We don't get many real frosts up here - well maybe in the depths of winter. We're close to the sea and the gulfstream offers some protection.
What we do get, though, is wind chill. I'm starting to get used to it now, but it's killed many of my less hardy plants!

We usually get our first frost in the new year, February and March are the coldest nights, but even then it's usually only a light touch.
In the 14 years I've lived here, the lowest temperature seen was -2C and one year we briefly had half an inch of very wet snow on our lawn.
On the down side though, it doesn't kill ANY pests ... even greenfly over winter here.
Three cheers for the gulf stream and long may it continue.

Amen to that! If it stops or turns around... rather not think about that, but it may well happen in our lifetimes.Three cheers for the gulf stream and long may it continue.

Re: Anyone had a frost yet?
I live bang smack in the middle of the country, but we rarely see a frost. There seems to be a local anti-frost pocket, if you see what I mean. Mind you, all weather seems to be diluted here. Gales in the country - we get slight tree movement. Floods in the country - we get a light sprinkling of rain. Snowploughs out on the motorways - we get a paper-thin snow covering. Considering just how flat it is around here, I'm determined to find out exactly why this should be so. I'll put it on the list - after the tree-felling, shed-building, wine-tasting, and all the other things. At that rate, global warming may have overtaken the need to know.

It went down to 1.9C and my lettuces have all got that translucent look.
Didn't lose any geraniums though as they are close to the house and get a bit more protection but I'm bringing them in tonight! Few more days and then it's supposed to be warmer at night so I'm putting them out again as they are still flowering their little faces off.
Jandra I spent two winters in the Netherlands and it was bloody cold there, often -10C the first winter, then -15C the 2nd! It was warmer when I moved near to Geneva!
