Huzzah For my Darling Husband my new(ish) kitchen!
I am utterly delighted with my updated kitchen. We had a most unbearable (or totally knackered as the lovely husband of mine says) freestanding cooker with collapsing radiant element hob and an oven with a mind of its own... and a family of mice in it and my cooking has been going downhill and I have been hating it....
A sheep farmer friend mentioned he had a cooking set (hob, oven and range hood) in one of his many sheds thathad been there since the eighties and never out of it's box due to being purchased for his mother who passed away before it was installed and wondered if we could do anything with it...
When it arrived I was delighted to find in was a DOUBLE OVEN and the large one is FANFORCED (oh bliss) and the hob is smooth ceramic top...absolutely top of the line (if rather brown) and I would never have bought one so fully optioned new for this tumble down cottage we live in.
We did hit a stumbling block... first of all we had no where to mount the hob- bench space is at a premium and the oven was a wall oven (our walls are 120 year old brick- not cavity) but my ever resourceful and recycling minded demi god of a husband has solved the problems- the hob has been mounted in a modified Tasmanian made teachers desk from the Mission Shop and the oven in the old fire place...
I have been baking (really very well if I do say myself) all day and just had to share!
hmmm I wonder if I posted this in the right spot- after all, I didn't make it and it is sort of recycling...
Ah well!

I really like that - what a great use for an old desk! And the oven in the chimney breast is a stroke of genius. Glad you didn't just decide to rip everything out.

Ah yes, this house is a little too "quirky" (read old and falling over and apart) to even consider doing a whole reno on (it would never end!) so we are forced to be resourceful... I just walked past it again ... so very chuffed!

The Darling Husband in question is astonished that people like his work but pleased... he tells me that he musn't rest on his laurels though... I never know what he will be up to next!

You have a very clever hubby and a lovely kitchen! What a lucky gal you are!
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Lucky girl, Jessebean. I like the creative use of existing features. Way to go and good health in using it.

You really are lucky to have such a clever husband, and he is lucky to have such an appreciate wife. Well done to you both. It really does look good. The desk is such a practical idea, loads of drawers for storing utensils. Fitting the oven into the fireplace looks so neat.
Congratulations.

*looks smug despite having done nothing herself* Yes I am so happy to have more storage space.
My husband and I have a mutual admiration club which may be sickening to outside observers but we are truly blessed to have found each other!
