Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

I have an idea, that is why I came here.
This seems like a wonderful place... I just don't want to take time to make posts and have them deleted or get myself into trouble!

Re: Hi I'm Teotzlcoatl
Ok well if legality is the only issue then that leaves TONS of psychoactive, entheogenic and medicinal plants to talk about!
Re: Hi I'm Teotzlcoatl
Stop playing games, Teo
I, for one, love to ponder on the uses of psychoactive substances by primitive societies and the relationship between that and religion, the implications for Ezekiel, and the importance of the lotus symbol to the Ancient Egyptians. But this is simply not the site to do that. You already know that, because your postings so far have been highly informative and very interesting. However, we have extremely good and very understanding moderators here - not something which could be said about any old site - and moderator-bating is not an approved sport. These guys want to know about plants which are interesting in terms of food (and we have some very strange foodies around). Caffeine is about as far as you should go.
Do stay around - I think you can be a very valuable member. But even though you're correct about the legality of Amanita muscaria, best to leave it well alone, I think.

Re: Hi I'm Teotzlcoatl
No games.
Your telling me that some psychoactives like caffeine are ok but other psychoactive like Amanita muscaria are not ok (even tho they are also legal) because they have different effects?
Seems like what your saying is that legality doesn't matter, I'm just not supposed to talk about psychoactives which are not deemed "OK" by society.
I find this very disturbing and somewhat ignorant.

Re: Hi I'm Teotzlcoatl
Legality has nothing to do with the issue, Teo. Sexual intercourse is legal, but would be inappropriate under a whole host of circumstances. That's the issue - appropriateness. The whole psychoactive field is intellectually fascinating. So, to my mind, is modern quantum mechanics - but I'm not about to start a thread on that subject on here because in general, the people on this site tend not to clamour for such debate.
Here's what Ish is about ...
http://www.selfsufficientish.com/index. ... philosophy
... and that's about it.
I'd hazard a guess that a fair percentage of Ishers know the difference between marijuana and dandelion root. Some of them even discuss ridding themselves of the dreaded dandelion. But any personal use of marijuana (or any other drug which hasn't achieved general social acceptance - I mentioned caffeine merely because it's the standard cup of tea or coffee) has precious little to do with the business of growing tomatoes, building a wind turbine, chasing slugs from the lettuce patch, and generally trying to forge a sensible path between modern civilisation and Eden-like Utopia.
Mike
EDIT: Don't become dismayed, by the way - you're far from the first to come up with potentially controversial subject matter. Usually, it all gets sorted about by a consensus of opinion.

Re: Hi I'm Teotzlcoatl
As MKG says, it is about appropriateness. If someone posts a photo of your toadstool and says 'aren't they pretty?' or that they are going to make Xmas cards out of the photos, then that's perfectly Ish. Talking about consuming a poisonous fungus just because you might get a high from it (along with all the other nasty side effects) is not.
You've had long enough to look around the site and get the feel of it, and the Admin team and various members of this forum have given their views, which should make it perfectly clear to you what this site is all about.
