I'm in the NE of england and as for comparing with Scotch bonnet... they don't !!, lol.

Scotch bonnets are rated at between 100,000 and 350,000 SHU

SHU means sckoville heat units and the way they test these is that each SHU in a drop of water so it takes so many SHU or drops of water to extinguish the taste of the chili. Therefore it takes over 1 million drops of water to extinguish 1 drop of chilli....

oh God... I feel like such an amature after reading this...

Out of all my veggies (to be fair I have a concrete garden and have sneakily lifted paving slabs of the rented property in order to have some earth...)

I thought my chillies had done the best...BUT I now realise how pathetic that is as I have so far grown.... 7 chillies....from 3 plants.... :(

Aww :hugish: don't feel disappointed, Tea. I only managed about a dozen, tiny chillies from my half dozen plants this year & I've been growing stuff for forty years!

We all have good & bad years with various crops for all manner of reasons.

I would say, given that it's your first go, and on soil that might be sour, (being under a slab for some time prior to your cultivation) that you did extreemly well to get ANY crop!

The ISH motto? 'It'll be a bigger harvest next year.'

I wouldn't worry, Tea. This was my Nth attempt at growing chilis, and I'm sure that any success was more because of the "given enough monkeys and enough typewriters" rule than any skill on my part.

Never knock yourself down Tea, there are plenty of others who will do that for you in this world. Bear in mind I've never grown chillis so you are 7 up on me. Also you say you lifted paving slabs, I assume you grew the chillis outside... I didn't know you could, and it may be that you used your own seeds that were not dried properly.
Bear in mind I've bought certified seeds and got 10 for £4 .... yes I know stupid bugger but they were a birthday present, lol.

" now dear what would you like for birthday.... all salivating, getting excited i replied can I have some chilli seeds pet... Doesn't bear thinknig about really...

They say in theory yes, I tried mine last year but they weren't great specimens to begin with and I have a cold house so they didn't make it. I've seen a thread here with lots that said they do regularly so worth a try.

Congrats to all on the chili front :) Agreed, any success is success in my book!

Mine from last season are small in comparison, but still got few small bags left in the freezer! Hope I get through them all before the next lot start producing again! Near winter I trimmed back the little trees and now most of them are coming back with avengence, yay!
