How do I keep Cats away from my garden?

The whole reason for the selfsufficientish website was to offer a place where anyone can ask, HOW DO I...? So who knows why it has taken us so long to have a HOW DO I? section, but here it is. So if you want to know how to do anything selfsufficientish then here is the place to ask.

There seem to be some folk here who know about cats...how do I stop stinky old toms "scent marking" my garden?

A friend grew some Nagga chillies, and mixed this in with Cat food, the cat seemed less than impressed and has not returned.

my step farther has a high powered water pistol once they have been hit a couple of times they dont come back

chilli in the cat food... hmm sounds more feasible than a dog for us although a little one like Durgans would do...!
