You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.
absence makes the taste buds grow fonder... I suspect you built up the idea of those things you miss and are disappointed when you have them. Same happens to me when I am just being good - say about not eating chocolate.. when i do have some its not as good as I remembered - possibly part addiction rather than taste!
I miss foods from abroad - I dream of skopelos cheese pie...
its not the same as doing without food you grew up with i guess.

I like like minded people... a bit like minded anyway.. well people with bits of their minds that are like the bits of my mind that I like...
I miss foods that are available abroad, namely fresh sea fish. Sounds a bit daft in a country surrounded by water I know but the wet fish here is dipped in preservative at the docks and if the dip needs changing the fish tastes like dirty mop water.
She eats knickers I understand the underwear thing, choices in Italy are barely there and no support for those who don't need it or very big and bullet-proof for everyone else. Needless to say, I stock up on my annual visit to the UK.
reading through all the posts made me hungry I forgot to mention that i also miss cadburys flakes, love those things stuck in a vanilla icecream cone. yum yum...

NEVER REGRET THAT WHICH ONCE MADE YOU SMILE.
I've only ever lived here, but I would like to try the Honey Cake I had it Switzerland and the sultana thingies that were sold on the station platform in Amsterdam again.
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

I lived in Australia for 8 years and had to stock up on Marmite and Atora suet. I also had to buy Walkers crisps and Soreen malt loaf for a friend everytime I came back. Got used to everything else being different, but just couldn't get on with Vegemite, Promite or the Aussie equivalent of Marmite!
