Electricity, Gas Demand Falls by Largest Amount Ever

Post: # 177337Post The Riff-Raff Element »

Well, that is the essence of this story in Le Figaro today.

http://www.lefigaro.fr/societes/2009/11 ... ssion-.php

Electricty demand year-on-year fell by 3.5% worldwide, gas demand by 3% all thanks to our friend The Crisis.

Now, it isn't enough, but it is in the right direction for a change, so tonight I shall be raising a small glass to the bankers of the world for delivering what those useless bastards in government have singularly failed to do: a real, meaningful, drop in energy consumption. God bless 'em!

Even if our members could all read French, how the hell do you get to read anything on that site with those stupid ads popping up and taking over most of the screen - there's nothing to click to close. :banghead:

And yes I do have a pop up blocker - only that tends to block things that I need to see!

Anyway (calms down now  ) that is good news!

Yup, perhaps a whole new strategy is required to combat world-wide energy over-use. Perhaps we shouldn't have been bailing out the banks after all. A prolonged recession could really yield some interesting benefits.

BTW, I didn't have any problems with pop-ups on the site. I've used adblock plus (ABP) with Firefox for a long time now and it appears to work superbly. I suspect your pop-up blocker is outdated? I can see the number of adservs in that site in the plugin's notification pane - none of them escape to pester the reader however.

No head boiling allowed unless you have the means to do so without using gas or electricity

Coincidentally, so am I ;) After reading it somewhere here, I gathered up a bucket load from the road outside our gate to see how they go in the stufa. Seems they burn quite nicely.

Not so much that as it has always been useless! But this is the first time I've ever seen an advert that can't be closed, and doesn't go away! But this morning there are no adverts. :dontknow:

I wasn't grumpy! Does that seem grumpy? It's pure frustration when you can't look at something because there's a huge ad in the way that won't go away so it was irritating, but didn't make me grumpy. :? :dontknow:

Yes I know sometimes I AM grumpy. But I wasn't then.

And there was more yesterday, but it was also in French, and blow me if I can find the same in English, BUT some genius has worked out in Europe alone these reductions amount to a cut in emissions year-on-year of 57 million tonnes carbon dioxide.

Around the village here solar panels and PV cells are mushrooming all over roofs. One business with a warehouse has just submitted (and had approved by the village council) a proposal to put 550m2 of PV on the roof, amounting to something over 200 MWh of production in an average year.
