essential oils

Post: # 178726Post red »

I'm carefully saving pork and mutton fat, rendering it, with a view to making soap when we have enough. I'll need to scent it a bit i think, as mutton fat tends to smell a bit sheepy!

any recommendations for places to buy essential oils? and any EOs i should avoid as unethical?

I don't make soap but I use essential oil burners, and the best I've found is:

The oils are pretty much return post!

Have a look at Essential Oils Direct, red. Pretty good quality and price.

I wouldn't bother using any citrus oils - they don't seem to come true, plus if you add too much they can irritate your skin.

I presume you've made soap before. If not there are loads of good online tutorials.

When i was rendering i boiled the fat with chopped oregano, rosemary and bay laurel to scent it some. Including salt in the water for rendering will also help to clarify the fat and remove impurities like blood, assisting scent and preservation. Keep the fat in the freezer or fridge until the night before you are ready to use it though.
