Favourite essential oil

What's everyone's favourite essential oil/ blend for fragrance use around the house? I don't know mine because I haven't tried enough yet!

Current favourite blend is Lemon and Lavender for cleaning and general house freshness... I think Lavender is my fave single oil.

I don't know enough about them to make a good blend for personal use..... I'll watch this topic with interest.

depending on what i want to achieve, lavender for a tranquil feeling. lemon/orange or peppermint for a pick me up. i also love almond/oatmeal for my bathsoap. i mix some gardenia or jasmine oil with bakingsoda and sprinkle on the carpet as a carpet freshner, then vacuum.

For everyday purposes, lavendar. For pure indulgence and yummy loveliness, Frankincense. It's fantastic for so many different things from skin complaints to depression that it's almost a cure-all, yet feels so wonderfully decadent at the same time.

I add a few drops of orange and patchouli to the washing - I prefer it to the smell of fabric conditioner.

I sometimes make my own "perfumes" - one of my fave combos is fennel, clary sage, basil and lavender. It's very fresh and "green"

That's the lovely thing about essential oils. Once you start, you can't stop, and as far as mixtures are concerned, the world is your oyster. I agree that orange is beautiful on clothes. I used to use a blend of bergamot and mandarin, just lovely. It smelled like some sun cream I bought in France years ago when I was a happy go lucky teenager, and all those lovely memories just came flooding back.

That, to me, is so lovely about it. Evoking old memories from smell. Things like cedarwood, lavender, sandalwood and rose all instantly take me back to happy days - reminding me of events, or people I loved who are no longer with me. It makes you realise how artificial today's scents are, I think. My grandpa always smelled like cedarwood, and engine grease. Today's grandpas probably smell of Lynx, and Izal medicated toilet sheets.

I'm an Aromatherapist so I smell of my last massage or treatment I love it.

I don't have a favourite blend any more, but I echo the sentiment about different oils evoking memories. They are so powerful.

I've always been really sensitive to perfumes - can't hang around near department store perfume counters - I get a terrible headache. Essential oils don't do this at all - I can, and in fact do, work all day with them.

However there was one perfume that I particularly liked and my daughter saved up and bought me a bottle for a big birthday (one of those with a 0 on the end ). When I moved it was missing for a while and I was so pleased when I found it, had a quick spray, and it smells dreadful! I presume it's because I'm working with real smells but it's so artificial. I haven't got the heart to tell her I can't stand it any more

Green Aura, that's exactly how I feel about most perfumes - they smell fake and chemical to me and after a morning at work surrounded by various different designer fragrances my head is throbbing

My current obsession is lemongrass but I always go back to sandalwood - I think that is my all time fave.

I do love lavender - it reminds me of when I was a little girl. My grandma worked at a big department store and once a year there would be a lady who would be in residence with a huge tub of lavender flowers and woven wicker pomanders to sell, and she would fill one just for you, tie it with a ribbon which held the thing closed and from which it would hang. I would have loved one of those - it seemed very glamorous and exotic when I was 7 or so! My other grandmother bought me lavender scented soap for my birthdays and Christmases for years because I loved the smell so much!
My other favourite has to be anything from the orange/mandarin/neroli family, as it's so uplifting, and gorgeous this time of year with a drop of clove and/or cinnamon!

for me it depends on the day but i am using a lot of orange at the moment and have a ton of fresh cinnamon sticks which i can t help but sniff!

No suprise that everyone likes lavender, so do I, I sometimes add rosemary to it.

great name squirrel46 as you must have squirrelled away about 46 burners! my fave is lavender and use it in my washing and bath and burner - my house smells nice - but by far is naag champa - it's expensive and divine - i use it in the bedroom !!!!
