hello from plymouth uk

Post: # 184499Post brett53 »

greetings all - better intro myself - name IS Brett ( there's a surprise  ) - i live in Plymouth - with a small cat and several cockatiels + 1 noisy parrot ( aka the evil ninja kitteh and the budgies of the apocalypse ) and have been likened to Wallis ( of Wallis and grommet - my favorite inventor ) by a couple of my neighbors who don't understand this alternate tech/self sufficentsy 'ish stuff

with me this is more necessity rather than any great desire to save the planet as i am a: disabled + b: poor - thus saving money is a priority :dontknow: - just so as you know where i am coming from - rather than pretending to be any great Eco warrior type

i live in an old house that ,being in the middle of a city has no room for much in the way of the usually visualised things like livestock etc - and has no garden at all -but there is still much that CAN be done - my main things being a lashed up solar powered rainwater harvesting system + insulation of this place with a few ideas that some "experts" would cringe at ( i hate "experts " BTW - never met many that have impressed me  )

transport is limited to a mobility scooter + trailer as required ( don't drive now owing to my disability ) but as i always say there is more ways than one of skinning ANY cat - so if you see a "weirdo" lugging things round on a scoot when visiting Plymouth - its probably me

regards to all

Hi Brett and welcome - I love the idea of a trailer being pulled by a mobility scooter - brilliant!

thanks - gets a few "odd" looks from people ( mainly plod - but they have obviously decided i am just a harmless old fool and ignore me ) - and occasionally i get accosted by people wanting photos - but as i always say "when the disabled drives " and needs must etc - not having a car anymore is problematical at times - but we manage and the local DIY outlets are used to me now ( the staff at one take bets as to if i can get what ever i am buying home or not - they ALWAYS LOOSE   )

I just wish that our society was not so car orientated and they put the DIY outlets in town not miles outside in most cases :angryfire: - as you can imagine trying to get anything toooo big home is a problem - but the stores tend to be fairly helpful when they know its me - and even had some builders deliver some stuff for free when they saw me pondering how to get it back - thanks guys !! :thumbright:

so when there's a will - there's a way :thumbright:

When I lived in the Netherlands which is bicycle country our gardener (he came with the rented house!!!) had an enormous trailer he pulled behind his push bike. I was impressed cos he wasn't a spring chicken!
