Rtrak in Nogueirinha, Central Portugal

Post: # 185598Post Rtrak »

Hi guys, we're based in a small village in central Portugal near the Serra Estrela. I'm 50 ish & my partner is 40 ish. We bought a Quinta (farmhouse) two years ago and are currently in the thoes of renovating. We have 1.2 hectares of land, split more or less equally between woodland and terraces. We have 50 ish olive trees as well as other fruit trees. The quinta is called Quinta da Laranjeira (the farm of the orange trees). We made a start clearing the land in 2009 this hadn't been touched for about 10 years. We're installing a log burner with back boiler to use our surplus timber (mainly mimosa) and have a twin coil water cylinder which will ultimately be assisted by a solar panel (once the builders are out of the way!). We intend keeping a few hens next year and will be growing some of our own vegetables once we have time. OK OK I'm getting carried away, this isn't a life story!! Hope to be able to interact with you guys and share some experiences. so HELLO!

Hi folks and thanks for the response! The sign on the wall outside the gate is made of ceramic tiles and originally Quinta das Laranjeiras implying that there were more than one tree. I've since found out the reality! Our house and surrounding land was separated off from a much larger quinta (Quinta da Soito). The new tiled sign was ordered and fixed, they then realised that there was only one orange tree so ground the additional letters off the sign!

It may all sound glamorous but as I type I'm in my caravan which has been here nearly a year looking out over a rain clouded valley beyond our cluttered building site!

PS the picture was taken yesterday when it was dry!

Great to hear from you, if anyone wants more information don't hesitate to ask. My task for today (should I choose to accept it) is to continue a hole through solid but friable granite to enter my water mine so I can install a pipe for the pump to feed the house.

Guess this isn't a post to say hello anymore so I'll have a look and see where it should go, apologies to admin!

No no no it can stay  , after all you are introducing yourself and where you live. We like photos and we're really nosy especially when someone lives somewhere more exotic than where we live ourselves.

Love the sign for the house done in those tiles. I suppose if you ever get another orange tree you'll have to paint the S's back in.
