intrigued by your post i googled walking onions. wow what a plant!! the only place i can find is in america they've sold out of bulbs but are selling planrs @ $12.99 + p&p. ww.egyptianwalkingonion.com I am on the case of finding a uk supplier as i really wamt some
If you can't find any, I have a few to get you started... I know them as perpetual onions... came from some Bulgarian friends... they keep haircutting the green bits and use them (like chives) in salads and soups etc. They seem to take a lot of abuse and survive :-)
My mistake was to plant them too far away from the kitchen.
I've had these for years, they are trouble-free, easy and they are infinitely self-perpetuating. Botanically they are Allium cepa Proliferum Group and are also known as tree onions. I would be happy to give you some for the cost of postage.

ahhh, saw this post and wondered what walking onions were - suspected they were maybe tree onions cos I've never known what else they are called. We had them when I was wee and I badgered my dad to find me some - which he managed to do last year
So I have loads too if anyone wants a few I'll happily stick'em in the post
wish I'd seen this earlier - have just bought some dried bulbils from real seeds - hope they take. I bought some seeds via ebay and they've all come up but if the plant doesn't set seed what the heck am I growing?
Would love some more in case these don't take and would happily pay postage and/or swap for some other seeds.

I'd love some of these if you still have spares, fruitcake.

Huge thanks for the walking onions - they arrived safe and sound here too. I really would like to send some seeds/stamps by return but you didn't include an address
