Burdock
I am planning to grow burdock this year instead of potatoes as blight it seems, is an inevitability here in the South West. Also I love the taste of burdock. So, anyone done this before? Any tips? If not I will report back.

Re: Burdock
Never grown burdock but I gather it's popular in sushi.
Have you tried blight resistant varieties of spud?

Re: Burdock
We grew it one year, in a dustbin for some reason - possibly ease of digging up. If memory serves it's a biennial.
I have no memory whatsoever of taste. texture or anything else about it (except big leaves) so I'm guessing we planted it with great intentions and then left it! We did quite a lot of that when we were both out working full time

Yep it is binennial. The first years roots are dug up and if left until the second year thats when it sets seed. Its a plant that I am pretty familiar with from foraging, but thought it worth while seeing how it grows as a crop. Bought the seed now, two sorts - so watch this space!
Marshlander - Yes and still had trouble. My allotment is not pretty infected so it won't hurt to leave it for a year. - Besides I fancy a change!

Hi Andy,
you mention you're familiar with burdock from foraging. Do you have any good photos? I've looked online for some but can't find any clear close-ups. I'm pretty sure I've found some but don't want to go uprooting just in case...
thanks
Ben
