We had fish pie last night. The girls and I did some baking this afternoon, one of the things we made was a golden syrup sponge to eat with custard. Maybe its a good job that I have just lost 11lb

Do you have any childhood favorites that you cook now?

Mine was gypsy tart. Used to by myself the odd slice from a bakery but have never bothered to make it at home as nobody else likes it so seems a lot of trouble - and calories!
Treacle tart same dilemma.

Re: Childhood favorites
Unbaked cheesecake that I've posted the recipe for before
Queen of puddings - made it recently but doesn't really work with semi skimmed milk, ditto bread and butter pudding. When I go out and buy some full fat milk I forget to use it and it goes off!
Fishy pie and chicken pie - made with white sauce with sliced hard boiled eggs in and a breadcrumb and cheese topping! Hadn't made it in donkey's years but made some with Xmas turkey and it was delish.
Macaroni cheese
Boiled eggs with soldiers
Come to think of it, most of the stuff I eat now I ate as a child/ado - spag bog, roasts, curries, stews etc.
The only difference is now I don't HAVE to eat food I don't like. I think that was the single most important thing about growing up is being able to say NO to food you don't like.
So no to peas and watery marrow

Re: Childhood favorites
When I was really little, my mum used to make me something eggy for lunch, and she would offer me a choice of 'boiled egg, poached egg, big egg, dropped egg....' I thought this was hilarious, and so did my son when he was little. My favourite was, and still is, 'big egg' - i.e. omelette! Only now I will eat salad with it and then I most certainly wouldn't!
