Wanted: Sheep

Post: # 192519Post aodonnell »

Hi

I have about an acre available and would like to put a couple of sheep on it. Looking for 2 ewes in lamb or with lambs at foot, or perhaps 2-4 young/weaned lambs. Not too worried about breed, standard commercials would do, but would like something more 'meaty' than your soay or ronaldsay things which I think are a bit scrawny. I'm located in Monmouthshire (Raglan) and can travel a short distance but don't have proper transport so longer distances are out unfortunately unless delivery is possible.

Cheers!
Andrew

Welcome to the DEFRA paper trail :pale:
Not being funny here but to comply with the current law (as I understand it)
First to keep sheep on your land you'll need to register it as an agricultural holding and be given a Holding Number
Then apply for a Flock Number (That individualy identifies your flock of sheep)(in theory you need this for pet sheep as well)
Then purchase an electronic tag reader (All sheep kept other than those under 12 months old going directly to slaughter, need be tagged with an electronic chip since 1st January 2010)
Then after finding some sheep fill in a movement order so the vender can move them onto your land.
Unless your sheep/lambs have been tagged with an eartag/chip which shows your flock number and a unique identifiying number of the animal the abbatoir will refuse to except them.
Or find somebody who allready keeps sheep and rent the ground to them.

heh, cheers. I know most of the current stuff regarding movement and have a CPH number which is the starting point. I'll worry about getting a flock number when the time comes to register lambs! (sheep bought in will already have their own numbers on the tag)

I didn't know about the microcpping thing though, thanks!
