New person saying hello!
New person saying hello!
Greetings all...I'm new, just saying hi.
I'm a married mom of 3 adult kids (last one still living in her own 'lair' on the property). We're on 1/2 an acre and hubby will be retiring from law enforcement career in about 3.5 yrs. We used to be on a larger 'mini-farm' with chickens, ducks, pot belly pigs, pygmy goats, a turkey, rabbits and many dogs, cats and even rats, birds and other critters.
Right now all we have are cats, dogs and doves (last year's Mother's Day gift).
I grew up a farmer's daughter, but I have a serious 'brown thumb'! I want to start container gardening, for some basic veggies and herbs, and want to get chickens again...but my mister doesn't want 'more to do' than he already has.
We're lucky that we bought the place with mature fruit trees, nut trees & grapevines, although we've missed harvesting much of it all, since we were both working up till about 2 years ago (when I had 2 back to back neck surgeries). This last year I was able to 'freecycle' some of the nuts and citrus, so I didn't feel so guilty about the waste.
I've got alot of projects I want to get started on, but I'm still recovering from the last surgery...so for how, I'm researching everything.
Hope to glean as much from you all as I can!
Suzi

Thanks for the welcome.
I found links here that helped me figure out how to grow potatoes!
I told my husband and he told me that our County (he works for the County's Sheriff Dept), gives out free mulch from the recycled 'green waste'! yay.

A late welcome from me
Sounds like you have a huge list of things you want to achieve!

The cockerel makes the noise, the hen produces the goods!! anon

I have always had too many 'irons in the fire'...but most of them had to do with sewing/costuming. Now, my local sources for fabric have closed down, along with the best thrift shop for my hobbies.
I need to find another creative outlet, and it may as well be something that helps save us money (since I most likely won't be going back to work). If I can't 'earn', I gotta 'save'.

I like your 'like minded' thing...lol...I only have a bit of mind going at one time...heh.
*wow, seems most folks here are from the UK? I want to go there some day...my ancestors came from Spofforth, and "our" castle is still a tourist attraction (although not much more than ruins). Someday I'd love to see it other than in photos*
