Don't be too impressed Susie, I didn't have any fine plaster, so I've used a cement/sand mix - the final result will be a bit rough, but better than it was..... I also couldn't find the trowel, so I used a broad flat scraper

Anyway... so far the window... ooh, and you can see where they used that bloody tape on the walls as well! Why?? :dontknow:

Julie were there cracks in the plaster behind the masking tape? Because I must admit there are various parts of my house which are well masking taped, mostly around windows to keep the drafts out from the cracks in the plaster that somehow go through to - outside? :dontknow: We did that by the way!

Cracks yes, MMM, but it's where the dry lining joins the original wall & the plaster from the dry lining has shrunk away - no-one thought to skim the full width to the window, but just skimmed to the edge of the existing plaster. It wouldn't have been quite so bad if they had used the scrim tape lenght-wise, instead of chopping 4 inch strips & using it like that!

I'm just taking off the cupboard doors - can't get new ones because none of the cupboards are standard sizes - they were all custom built for the kitchen - not very well, mind!!

I'm maybe the only person who is envious of your kitchen..... Mine currently has 6 inches of water under the floorboards.... such fun...

We moved here four years ago and are just starting to catch up with the things that must be done before we can get to the fun things. We had plans to extend the kitchen which measures 7foot 8inches by 4foot 10inches and involves having the cooker at right angles to the units thank goodness we have a walk in cupboard in the hall which holds the freezer and acts as a larder.
Now with the state of the country we think we will wait and see how things go before spending all that money...............still it means that painting the kitchen is a quick job that can be done with a kids paint set. Jessica

No not the cupboard doors, :( :(
the ever growing luvpie household currently contains, 4 boys, 4 chickens, 2 cats, 2 rabbits, 4 fish, an empty tropical fish tank waiting new arrivals, now are we daft to look at our broody hen thinking, if we got some fertilised eggs........

So the ceiling is done & colour is on the walls - it's a LOT stronger & darker than the colour on the outside of the house, even though it's been mixed in the same shop - maybe because it's a different type of paint? :dontknow:
Some cupboard doors have been undercoated, but I'll be cracking on with those today, along with the window frame & the back door & frame. I have decided NOT to paint the internal door at all - I'm going to check the price of an internal door with glass panes next time I go into Roscommon - I might as well change the door while I'm at it & save myself some work!

Andy's supposedly home tomorrow - I hope they don't decide to come home early tonight  But if they do, well, I'm nearly there!!

Right.... work head on......

What colour have you chosen?

I've also noticed that you have the same plug sockets as the UK, that's saved you a fortune and a lot of time not having to change plugs on all your electrical appliances! :thumbright:

Ooo... he'll notice!! Or else..... :angryfire:

MMM, I chose a cream colour - I got some weathershield for the exterior & had it coloured - it looks very much like a fresh clotted cream - black 'bits' & windows & doors - looks quite nice, I'll take a pic when it's finished.
So I'm not a fan of having different colours for different rooms, the long term plan is to have cream walls in every room & add colour via the accessories.
The new paint was the same code, but looks like someone added a sponnful of coffee, so it's a stronger colour, but it's still nice & LOADS better than the sickly green.

I might not get all the cupboards done mind, I have to take the doors off to paint them, or I can't get to all the edges & I only have room for a few doors at a time while they are drying! I thought I'd crack on with the top cupboards & leave the floor cupboards to finish over the next couple of days.

I did the window edges & then decided that the window frame itself looked very drab left brown, so I've whitened that too - (half) finished pics later tonight I think!!

OK, not a 60 minute makeover, more like a 60 hour makeover, but I will be so grateful not to have that green kitchen anymore :flower:
