wild strawberries

been clearing the garden and ive found a patch of wild strawberries (im excited because ive been told there hard to grow in a backyard ) now the only problem is ,there in the wrong place, right next to where the new fence is going so they will get destroyed.

i want to keep them and im wondering if i can lift the grass there growing in a bit like you would to remove grass, only with a bit more soil and put them else where?

ive never grown strawberries ( or wild ones) so have no idea.

thankfully me not cutting the grass for 2years has probably allowed them to flourish!

Worth a try if they are going to be destroyed anyway!! I hope you are lucky

Agree - move them and hopefully they will survive the transfer!

As a safeguard - the plants should be starting to put out runners which are potential new plants for you. Pot these runners up into some damp compost and you can then plant these somewhere else too. A bit of insurance in case the main plants don't survive the move!

My mum brought me some wild strawberry plants over on the train in her suitcase wrapped in damp paper and they're huge and producing this summer so I think they'll be fine to move.

You don't get many but they are lovely.
