Valve wrench

Post: # 200427Post KathyLauren »

Problem: The main valve on one of my water tanks was seized. I know from experience that trying to force it by hand would only break off the handles. Getting lubrication to the innards of the valve was not an option. And the only alternative to un-seizing it was to disconnect it from the tank, wasting 2000 gallons of water and causing a huge mess.

Clearly, what I needed was a special-purpose tool. I seriously doubt if there is a wrench for this type of valve, and even if there were, there is no way that the local island hardware store would have one. Obviously, a bit of Ish was required...

Excellent.

And more people might need one of those than they realise. According to our local plumber the main stop tap to a house (which looks just like that one little plastic one, but a bit bigger) often fails the first time it is truly needed (e.g. when water is pouring through the ceiling!)

Sounds like a plan: get some casting sand, scrap iron and a small blast furnace and you will be in bussiness
