I was allowed a small taster of the first one harvested and they are indeed very sweet and melon(ish).
They also have a double flavour as although the flesh is sweet, the skin is quite hot like a radish, so peel it .. or not, but most definitely have to be eaten raw, or only very lightly stir fried.

I hated turnips till my allotment neighbour gave me a few spare seedlings that he thinks are called 'Veitchy red' though as I can't find them on the web as a variety, I'll have to nag him to look at the packet.Millymollymandy wrote:Ohhhhh nooooooo turnips!![]()
