Salmonberry.

Post: # 202525Post spider8 »

Has anybody had any experience of growing Salmonberry? I 'aquired' a couple of cuttings and they seem to have taken but I wondered if anybody else grew it and what they thought about it?

Having had a 'Google', it seems they are very similar to raspberries and you can use in the same way. I first noticed the lovely flower on the plant, a deepish pink almost bell shape and decided to ahem, aquire a couple of cuttings. It will be a good while before they are big enough to give any fruit but what the heck..........I can wait  .

Ahem..........in todays Orcadian newspaper there is an article about Salmonberry and perhaps I won't grow it. Apparently it's smothering all native plants and is getting out of hand! Shame as it has such a pretty flower and has edible yellow berries...........I'll just have to harvest from the wild plants then, ho hum :(

I've heard of it Spider8 but that's about it, but if it's doing damage to local species then get rid of it, kill it, burns it. Sorry it all went lord of the rings there, lol. :whdat:
