Spring Onions - this is so wierd

Post: # 203752Post Millymollymandy »

The first few years I was here I grew sping onions with no problems. Then came a year when they just would not germinate and I went through packets of the damn things of different varieties! Same problem the next year. So having been resigned to growing a few in a pot I decided just recently to try a few in the ground again, just out of interest.

Result - a perfect row of germinated spring onions.

?????? :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:

I'm pleased though, and about to sow a lot more!

I guess it pays to try every year. Funny old thing at times, this gardening lark!

I've always been able to grow vast amounts of beans, but have had little luck this year. The first seeds I planted all went mushy in the soil. :pukeright: The next lot germinated but got fried in the sun one day :sunny: :angryfire: . I then planted some in a tub which grew really well but have now been attacked by blackfly :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I have a few that have finally got past 12 inches outside with the corgettes but I'm not overly hopeful yet and still haven't had a single bean on my plate this year!

OMG Keanie you will have to change your name  do you have any courgettes?

I can't get any more French beans to germinate or curly kale :banghead: - the kale seed might be old but I'm fast running out of time and I can't have a winter without curly kale. :( Doesn't help that something ate one of the only 3 that germinated and the ducks then stuck their stupid beaks into the next lot of planting.

I also have very strange potimarrons (pumpkin) that haven't had a single female flower in about the last month - so I had the initial fruit, then smaller fruit which decided to just rot off then absolutely nothing, totalling 2 fruit off 3 plants and 3 off the 4th plant. OK that is enough but normally I'd have at least 5 or 6 on each plant. Maybe cos they are self seeded? :dontknow:
