Pepper problems

Post: # 204332Post Gem »

My peppers were doing very well in their little green house with the aubs, they flowered and started fruiting so I started feeding and all was looking fine until I went out yesterday and noticed all the freaking fruit had just dropped off :angryfire:

The plants look fine, no sign of any disease or parasite. They were being watered appropriately and I can see NO sign of anything that might be causing this.

I have grown peppers for a few years and I have never seen anything like this before.

Any ideas? Want to stop this happening again! Peppers are one of my bumper harvest and it will be a real loss if this happens again :(

Hi gem - to be honest I've got no idea. I just responded to bump it back up to the top. Interesting problem! :pale:

If they are dropping straight off, and you're losing leaves as well it could be a magnesium deficiency. They always say the leaves go yellow, but they don't always. Have you been feeding them with the normal mix of the sort of stuff you use on tomatoes that is rich in potash? That can be a problem - too much tomato feed (that they recommend for peppers too) can inhibit the uptake of magnesium. Epsom salts will sort that out, then only feed with 20% of the recommended amount of feed that you'd usually use on tomatoes.

We have peppers growing in a grobag on their own that we haven't fed much - just a wee bit of seaweed stuff every fortnight or so, and they are doing really well. We also have a pepper plant in a grobag between two tomato plants that is getting 'tomato strength' feeding once a week with an organic proprietary feed, and that's been losing leaves and fruit.

Otherwise, it could be dramatic drops in temperature between day and night, but that shouldn't really apply if you're growing them in a greenhouse.

Hope this helps!!

Had a similar problem with a lot of my pumpkins, they started growing and swelling and turning orange - then just started to rot and drop off. Never had that problem before either! :dontknow:
