Hi - have just registered and wanted to say hello!

We are a family of 4 with two growing boys who love getting muddy.
Have been attempting to grow own veg for three years with some success (apart from slugs!)
Loving eating from the garden and also elderflower champagne!
Would love to hear from anyone who has a wood burning range - we have an oil rayburn that is costing a fortune and are considering getting a second hand stanley superstar wood burner to do heating, hot water and cooking but are a little concerned as to how much wood we will need and how tricky they are to use?
Any advice gratefully received - my other half is worried will have to spend every weekend chopping wood!

As for the Rayburn - before you look at replacing what about a conversion kit. There's an Aga shop in Machynlleth that might be able to advise you (assuming it's still there - not been for a while) - if you're near of course :lol:

Hi - we are not far from cardigan.
The rayburn we have is a 368k oil burner that I don't think can be converted unforunately!

Welcome to ISH :flower:

Swapping your oil burner for a wood burner may mean more work, but it'd save you a fortune in the long run, (and be much better for the environment too, of course).

See if you can source ready chopped or split logs in your area. We're lucky in that an old mate of ours is a tree surgeon & drops us loads of free wood. We only have a stove though, I think a Stanley would eat more fuel. We're about to move to RoI 7 will probably have a solid fuel Stan, so I'll watch your replies with interest.
