I think it will be really great to have more of those shops. I think there was a report of one in 'Working Lunch' recently.

Empty shops do not go cheap because they have to keep the rent levels the same as the whole row of shops which are still in business. Or the owner's rental income will suffer.

What about a sympathetic church with a hall to spare running once or twice a week? Or a school on a weekend?

There must be grants available to do that sort of thing ....
