Great news I got a telephone call today offering me an allotment. I have been on the waiting list for about 18 months so it feels really good to have got one at last. The plot has an apple tree at one end and the rest is actually quite clogged with roots etc and is in terrible condition. But my lovely youngest son who is a tree surgeon/landscaper has offered to put raised beds on it with lovely new soil and has offered to help look after the allotment. When I got the news I jumped up and cheered..big mistake! I am at the moment waiting for a phone call giving me a time to go into hospital to have my gall bladder out, having already spent last weekend in hospital. So for the time being I am going to have to stick to planning my allotment as I don't think I am going to be digging for a while! Oh well, you have to take the rough with the smooth. Perhaps this is my reward for being such a big brave girl!!!
Oh I wish I could lay back, plan and direct my son to layout my allotment and build raised beds. And obviously onions, garlic, broad beans have to be planted now, can't wait till you're better, etc, etc.
Fingers crossed all goes as well for the op as it as for the allotment!
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Best wishes for a swift return to your new allotment, take loads of good gardening books in with you,AND SEED CATALOGUES,and by the time you've got next years growing all mapped out, you'll be on your way home.
Not only am I lucky to have a lovely son, I am very lucky to have met such a lovely bunch of people as you all are. Thank you for all your good wishes and kind words, I will let you know how I get on. Do you think they will let me take in my suitcase full of veg and gardening books, along with graph paper etc etc and a paper bag with nightie and toothpaste!
Hope all goes well, Fran! You must be excited about the allotment but nervous about the op??? You could always take a laptop to plan things and do research
The cockerel makes the noise, the hen produces the goods!! anon
Congrats on the allotment and don't worry about the op. I had my gall bladder out just over a year ago and it was a doddle.........felt wonderful almost immediately afterwards but couldn't do anything remotely strenuous for about two months so please be patient (sorry!) and do as you're told, take it easy. Plan, plan, plan your allotment and what a lovely son you have .
Congratulations and hope all goes well with the op - this is a good time of year to get the lottie as you will have plenty of time later on when you are well enough to potter on it before the full sowing season starts next spring! So enjoy your research time.
Congrats!!! That's fantastic news, now u have something to look forward to while recovering from ur op. Goodluck with the op and hope you r out digging soon. Xxx
