Sleet... in late May!

Post: # 21211Post Stonehead »

I have just retreated indoors as not only was it cold, wet and windy outside, but the heavens open and dropped a deluge of sleet on me. So much for the last few days of spring!

So instead of building races to move pigs through, I'm going to make a a couple of batches of ginger beer and get some stout started. Woe is me.

Absolutely blinking awful here too. I dash outside to get bits of the jobs done when I can but on top of weather we both woke up this morning feeling like death. James has infected us. Hope we haven't passed it on btw..

Then we noticed the fridge is broken so had to fork out for a new one.

Stonehead, I think we maybe took a little of your curse away with us

Maybe the curse weakens if it gets spread around a bit...

And what do you need a fridge for in this weather? Just stick everything in covered buckets and put out the back door. Although we do have sunny spells here, we've also had the (almost) sleety showers.

We had three showers of sleet altogether and moderately heavy rain for much of the rest of the day.

Now don't get me wrong, we do need the rain but at the same time the plants need a bit of sunshine and I have three pig pens to build, plus the races to connect them.

I can drive in stobs in the wet but, as the pens will need to be boar proof, the corner posts need to be dug three feet deep and concreted in. Not an easy job in heavy rain with the holes flooding.

Funny how it only rains like this when I absolutely have to get a very important job done and it's a job that really should be done in dry weather.

Still, I did manage to get the trailer stripped down to its frame, ready for repair. It did involve a lot of running in and out with the extension lead and angle grinder, but I did get there in the end.

Must dash - the oven is beeping so the fruit loaf must be done.
