How do you use Milk Kefir?

Post: # 215162Post Jessiebean »

I have some kefir grains (milk and water- through freecycle!) butnow I have made some, strained it and popped it in the fridge I don't know how best to sue it... any wonderful suggestions?I am thinking if I can't come up with anything else I will turn it into a smoothie.

It is a cultured food using these rubbery grains which contain the microflora.. sounds great doesn't it?

We drink the kefir that we make up to help with digestion, but you can also make a cheese with it as well
Our remote ancestors said to their mother Earth, "We are yours."
Modern humanity has said to Nature, "You are mine."
The Green Man has returned as the living face of the whole earth so that through his mouth we may say to the universe, "We are one."

It's amazing stuff - don't use it all in one smoothie jessie - start your own kefir plant(?). You can use it for all sorts of things and you can use the whey for preserving (lacto-fermentation) + ginger beer plant........... the list goes on.

If you find you're getting overrun with it pass some on to someone else and you can freeze it - it re-activates afterwards without difficulty.

How do Imake a Kefir plant? I have been straining out the grains and popping them in a new jar of milk ... what else can i do with the. The Water ones are being fermented with ginger and dates and it makes a lovely drink and they seem to multiply alarmingly!
Luckily the oldest boy loves bot hthe milk and water so we seem to b onto a winner.
HAd a smoothie just then-oats, strawberries, honey, kefir and marshmallow leaves. Sounds horrible but lovely!!
