My wishes for speedy recovery come a bit late...

Don't want to put you off riding altogether, but a colleague of mine (experienced rider) fell off last year and broke her pelvis. That took a bit longer to heal.

I love horses - but I think it would have to be a Clydesdale nowadays to carry me! Those slim, racy little things would sink down to the ground if I heaved my weight onto them... I think I would go for driving, if I ever had a horse. Would love one, eventually (along with all the rest of the livestock  ); they are useful for moving heavy weights around. (Not just myself, I was thinking of logs etc just now!) And I'd simply love to turn up at the local shop with my horse and cart and get off to do the shopping!

When I was at uni, there was one family that occasionaly came in by pony. And in my early years in that town (late 80s), there was an elderly couple that had a horse and cart - you would sometimes see them outside the bank or post office; one of the couple doing the business inside, the other one staying with the horse. That's the problem nowadays - everybody has car parks, but there's nowhere you can park (i.e. tie up)your horse!

With you on that one Ina!!! I think our local high street would have a few decent places to tie up a horse... the park is next to the shops, so it could have a little graze there! The Councillors faces would be a picture!

I'm pretty sure there's no law against it - unless they trump up a charge on obstructing the traffic or whatever. You do see horses and riders on the streets around here once in a while - why not go shopping in a cart!

My English neighbours used to take their little Welsh pony out with a trap - I'm waiting for them to start doing it again (they've been renovating the house) as I've never been out on one and it sounds like great fun!

As for my back and bum, I'm still not right although it is getting better, very slowly. Can only do a little of this and that and then have to rest as my upper back muscles start screaming and my bum aches which affects my walking and makes me hobble. :(

Whilst I do love horses I think I will have to be a bit more sensible and get back to basics, after all I am still bouncing around in the saddle and could do with relearning a bit of balance!!!!!! Anyway it is just not worth it if I can't get on with normal day to day stuff (yes even the vacumming hurt my back!), especially the stuff I enjoy like gardening! :(

Hi Ina, I'm getting lost here in the 277 postings since I last logged on!

Yes had a nice time although I really don't want to get old, having spent my time with doddery old wrinkly folk! And the weather, as most of you know, was NAFF! Still managed to get out and about a bit, shopped till we dropped, hubby got 3 pairs of £3 Tescos jeans (they didn't fit me  ) and I discovered Wilkinsons - cheap or what?   so well stocked up with gardening gloves!!

The main thing is that I am really, really happy to be home. Now just got to get rid of those weeds and get on with the planting!!

:flower:

But you know, MMM, WE might get older, but we'll never get doddery or wrinkly! That's always just the others....

Yeah, and those old folk will always be older than us! Although after yesterday's marathon weeding session I am feeling about 108.......

I think your finger slipped on the 0 there... Surely you meant to say 18???

I know, I am stiff even if I only sit at the desk for a few hours and get up again. And a day's weeding makes you wish you'd never grown above 3foot something. We'll have to get ourselves more raised beds...
