Hello all - from Sheffield!

Post: # 21735Post SweetPea »

Hello all! I'm 25 and a research scientist living in Sheffield.

My partner and I recently moved from a flat into a house with a large garden and a dedicated vegetable patch and greenhouse. I started gardening as a complete novice back in February and now have potatoes, garlic, onions, carrots, lettuce, spinach and (one!) broccoli plant to show for my efforts! The greenhouse contains tomatoes, basil, cucumber and chillis. I've had some sucesses and some disasters over the last three months but I've enjoyed every minute. It's a learning curve! I'm keen to get some chickens in the future but I'm still a little unsure.

Very much looking forward to 'meeting' you all! :)

SP x

Hello there sweetpea. Sounds like you are doing pretty well already.

I would expect more disasters along the way, it comes with the territory and makes the final produce seem much more deserved.

Hi SweetPea! Good luck with the veggies. We all have our ups and downs and disasters but that's all part of the learning curve. And we never stop learning!

Aww, thanks for the pics, Millie - Panda and Honey are both adorable! I love rabbits. When I was a child my mum ran an informal rescue and rehoming centre for rabbits and guinea pigs, although naturally I wanted to keep them all  My OH and I have a cat, Olivia :cat: (the grumpy looking beast in my second avatar!)

Nev - I work in nanotechnology, studying frictional forces at the atomic level. I'm based in the Chemistry department at the university and my background is chemistry, although through my current research I'm slowly becoming a physicist!

Shirlz - the Frog and Parrot is a great pub! I used to live just across the green from it, so the Frog and the Dev Cat formed my locals between them :drunken: I'm out in t'sticks now though!

Hi Sweetpea, and welcome!

Your line of research will come in useful - we often seem to have problems here where a bit of scientific advice is needed.

For a garden beginner you seem to be doing extremely well! Which reminds me, a friend gave me some sweetpea plants which need to go out today...
