Re: weight loss group
Hi All, have just found this thread, was losing weight anyway but will be fun to have others to talk to!! I lost 4 lbs this week taking me down to 12 and a half stone (was origanlly 15 stone 3) got a bit further to go to be comfortable for my height (am about 5'5"). AM only weighing in once a week so will be back then!

Re: weight loss group
I am wondering whether to join this as am also trying to lose a bit of weight, but, frankly, it is for shallow reasons of vanity and you all seem much more noble!
. Anyway, I would like to get down to about 9 1/2 stone (I am about 5' 5"), I don't know how much I weigh now but probably about 10 stone - 10.5 or thereabouts. My downfall is that most of the things I like doing involve sitting on my backside! (Reading/ knitting etc).
I am trying to cut out the more egregious rubbish I eat and be a bit more active, so, I have cut down on the biscuits and am going to start going to yoga again.
You are all very inspirational ;-).

I think vanity is a real spur to losing weight. Everyone wants to look good as well as feel good! Off down the allotment today for a bit of digging! pbf.

It's good to only weigh in once a week but don't just come here once a week as this is a a fast moving topic. 4 pounds is a good weight loss and well done. keep up the good work.

Welcome here.
Vanity is ok so long as you keep a handle on it. I've known a lot of people get their heads in a mess because they thought they needed to do something to improve their looks etc. Be happy at what you do but also lose the few pounds that you want to make you look even more stunning than you do all ready if you want to but don't get hung up on it.
You don't need to sit down all the time even if you are doing the things you like to do. Not many people know this but Donald Rumsfelt who was some high up gadgy in the bush presidency in America never sat down! he would eat, work and relax all stood up as he claimed it made him more alert and responsive. You can check you weight free of charge at your doctors surgery or many chemists if you want and you may find that you wiegh more than you think. I say this as you need to know your starting weight if, and it's a BIG IF you are losing weight for a specific reason, i.e. to get to 9.5 stone rather than to be healthier like me.
I got weighed yesterday, my weigh day and I'd only lost 0.8 kg but that's still 1.75 pounds and considering I fell off the wagon onto my fat arse with a big bang I'm quite happy today. Back on the wagon today so all is cool again.
Take care all and have a good weight loss week.

Mrs BA lost 2 pounds this week so she has lost a total of 7.5 pounds in the three weeks of this weight loss group so whilst that is a great sucess it's still not as much as me !!!! [ not that I'm competitive or anything].
She can see a big difference in the way her clothes are fitting a bit better and she got on a t shirt that she hasn't worn for about 5 years!
Well done to my missus.... just in case she reads this.

Re: weight loss group
Just a wee thought that I'd share. It seems that eating things with a stronger flavour makes me eat less of them. For example, I like oil on my salad and often put loads of oilive oil on - so I've swapped it for sesame oil which has a stronger flavour, and I've used less. The same seems to go for chocolate - G&B instead of dairy milk, dark instead of milk. Strong cheese instead of mild. So I can still have the things I like but I want less of them
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

I have put on 1 lb
Not sure why -- eating patterns not noticeably different to previous weeks

To help nip this weight gain in the bud try doing a food diary. Keep a piece of paper on the work bench or wherever you prepare food and write down everytihng you do in terms of food preperation, quantities, calories etc. you can take this as far or as short as you like to accomodate for lifestyle / work etc but then you will be able to see those little bits of chocolate you forgot about or the extra biscuit, slice of bread, larger portion of cerials etc.
We all like to think we have a good memory but when it comes to weight loss I somehow "forget" the high calorific items.... don'y know why?
Really good point that millims. I always use strong cheese as it takes less to keep the flavour when cooking but never thought of doing it in general.Milims wrote:Just a wee thought that I'd share. Olive oil is, we are told good for the heart etc but it still has 823 calories per 100mls !!!!
I've started making my own dressings and it's amazing how little you can get away with and still taste the difference.

Re: weight loss group
I am somewhere between 13 and 14 stone at the moment. I would love to get down to somewhere between 10 and 11, no specific weight goals, just a healthy weight without a double chin in sight! My friend effectively scared me into wanting to lose weight (not on purpose) by telling me about a lady who was coming to visit her husband in the rest home my friend works at. This lady choked on a piece of food and it got lodged in her throat. She was so large that they couldn't do the heimlich, and she nearly died O.O
I'm 5'8" so am not hideously large but would still love to slim down. I have started going to the gym a few times a week and generally spend between an hour and an hour & a half there doing various things. I am actually enjoying it :)
Well done on all your progress!!! :)

Re: weight loss group
Good luck with your planned loss spanderholic. Remember to eat a good carbo meal after the exercise and to keep within your fat burning zone when doing aerobic exercise. My scare story was a few years ago when we used to get our boiler serviced by the same engineer from the same company. One year a different bloke turned up so I asked where Terry was,." He's on the sick came the reply. The next year the same bloke came and told me that terry had left the company as he was now blind, had a leg amputated and was in a wheelchair. He was overweight, a heavy drinker and a heavy smoker.... He became diabetic and it got him . At that time I was 178 kg so about 30 kg heavier than Terry......Spanderholic wrote:I am somewhere between 13 and 14 stone at the moment. a couple of years ago my sugar was high and I was told it was only a matter of time before I became diabetic so the aim was and is to put off that time as long as I can.

Re: weight loss group
Good evening all
Well done Mrs BA, half a stone in 3 weeks is excellent!
And well done everyone else too
I haven't weighed yet, wait until Thursday when I can get up to Boots now but my diet has been going well and I started the couch to 5k running program yesterday. Did better than I thought because I accidently mixed up the times and did 2 minute jogging intervals instead of 1! Will bring it back down to 1 min on my next run as I don't want to burnout.
Good luck for the rest of the week all
PS Keanie - My sports bra is a lifesaver
