I'm a 28 year old Bedfordshire born and bred (although I have dreams of moving to the coast one day) freelance writer and web editor, been trying to slowly but surely make some changes to living a bit more self sufficiently for the last 4 years or so. I have a blog at http://www.smallestsmallholding.com charting my progress, my mistakes, and my general ramblings!
I called it the Smallest Smallholding as I used to keep a small but perfectly formed troop of ex-battery hens, along with my ever-expanding veg plots in the back garden, part of which was once an old market garden. We got the girls in 2006 but unfortunately by 2009 we were chicken-less, as they'd all taken their turn to go to the big chicken coop in the sky. We may get some more one day! But with cats and our resident composting machines (rabbits) remaining, I kept the Smallest Smallholding name... maybe one day we'll have more girls clucking about the place!
I'm a wildlife gardener really - I've had an interest in wildlife since I was about 6 years old when I used to rescue all manner of small mammals, make insect homes, roll around in mud and climb trees - and have recently been looking at permaculture so I can stop fighting with my Smallest Smallholding and learn to manage it properly.
I'm also a complete Beatles nut, a little too obsessed with Harry Potter, and make the best roast potatoes this side of the Watford Gap :)
