I agree with Julie espeically about that way of shopping. In the days of shops on streets where people lived!

I do also understand about the smiley thing with people getting the wrong end the stick.

I don't really know why it winds me up, but it does, and I didn't say which poster specifically wound me up, but it wasn't Ruth.

Life is to short to moan about digital pixels, sorry, as for the Admin role,       :brave: :study: :sunny: :king:   :santa: :santa: :santa: :grouphug: :grouphug: :hugish: :hugish: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :grouphug: :andy: :smurf: :smurf: :brave: :banghead: :study: :shaking:  :wav: :wav: :wav: :spam1:

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.

I am coming to the view that oil being converted to plastics is just a delay in being converted to heat, and that burning plastics is probably better than landfill. I did read on the net of some process that could convert scrap plastic back into some form of liquid fuel, but it doesn't seem to have emerged as viable, and may have had dubious EROEI.

If you take that view then plastic bags are a potential energy source. When they are knackered just bung them in your wood-burner and stop agonising over them.

The only? problem with that approach is you risk sending dioxins and other carcinogens up your chimney and into your neighbourhood.

You can get round the worry of meat juices contaminating other shopping the same for toiletries or laundry goods by having a separate re usable bag for those goods and the meat one can be washed often ... even though I do carry my own bags when you shop on th emarket it can still be a bother getting traders not to use bags .. grrr so still have enough for rubbish.

Some ideas here for re usable bags.

but is that any dirtier than straight woodsmoke? I doubt it, but I'd be happy to have some hard information on this.

Or take an old newspaper with you to wrap them in.
