A few first earlies don't flower. Have a feel around for tatties, could be it's ready to harvest

we've been eating first earlys for some weeks now - not a flower in sight.. as CC said - have a fertil around in the mud, see if you can find spuds. or sacrifice one plant to take a look

some of my early new potatoes are jacket sized now

If they are dying back it's a sure sign that they have finished growing
I have been digging mine for about a month now and all those remaining have either very shabby yellow leaves or dead leaves.
They are at the stage now when they are difficult to scrape and will soon have to be peeled. :(

I would say that they need digging up and eating, whatever the reason they are dying back any taters are not going to grow any bigger.

I've just dug enough up for the next few days. Nothing like the taste of your own new potatoes. I've treated myself to some steak today to go with them - roll on lunch time!
