Hello from a slightly nervous newbie!

Post: # 238677Post bythesea »

Hello, I'm Kirsten, and my partner & I live right on the north sea coast in Berwickshire. Slowly trying to reclaim land which goes up a cliff, and now have a reasonable veg patch going, though the salt spray and winds make it a bit of a hit & miss extreme gardening experience!

We've got a cat, a wormery & - the reason for the nerves- 4 newly arrived Black Rock hens. Loving them, just want to make sure we do everything right!

Joining up here cos it looks like you're packed full of advice & info!

Hi there  Welcome. I am sure you will love it here.

Good luck with the blackrocks - I am sure you will be fine, chooks are much hardier than you think. Just keep their house clean and foxproof, feed them enough and you cant go wrong.

Mind you, I recon you are at the top of a very slippery smallholding slope. Got any room for a couple of lambs? Could you find a quiet corner for a pigsty?

Laugh now, but it's only a matter of time....

Hiya Im new too....we have 3 blackrocks and 19 ex battery girls, we call the blackrocks 'The Hooligans' they follow us everywhere and if they think we have a treat they fly straight up onto our shoulders to try to get first dibs on it. They lay lovely brown eggs too. Have fun with them x

Hehe, I did too.

Lots of River Cottage (leave the book in the loo), ration him to two slices of bacon because of the exhorbitant cost, and book him on a pigkeeping course. Got the message accross in my case!
