Berberis berries

You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

Are they edible?
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Yes, or at least I've edded them and I'm still alive (just)
Assuming we are talking about the same bush, thorny with orange flowers in late spring and small longish red berries ?
Just Googled and they are apparently a Persian delicacy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berberis_vulgaris

Ah, are you talking about Mahonia, holly like leaves, white lily-of-the-valley looking flowers in early spring with fairly large blue/black berries ?
Those are edible too, but a bit sour for my liking.

It seems to be Berberis Darwinii - thin leaves, orange flowers and blue berries
