Homemade Tea

Post: # 239226Post agreenmess »

Hey,

Sorry if this is in the wrong place/has already been done, i did do a quick search and nothing came up.

I'm a massive tea drinker, especially herbal tea's and i can go through around 8 cups a day. Now ive got quite the taste for "proper" tea such as teapigs (well they seem to be all im buying at the moment).

Now these tea's are really expensive and i was wondering if anyone would know if there is any way i could make my own?

Many Thanks

True Tea, (Camellia Sinensis) will grow in this country, not sure how many plants you'll need to cultivate to sustain supply. Google it for UK suppliers.

As for other "Herbal teas" (or tisanes for the purists) there are loads of recipes on the web, in general its about an ounce of dried herb to 2 cups of boiling water. There are some great recipes here:http://www.food.com/recipe/rosemary-mint-tisane-172151

Happy hunting!

I'd recommend buying young Camellia sinensis plants, rather than the seeds, as they are quite difficult to germinate at the best of times, and some suppliers, like Jungleseeds.com, must send out out seeds that are quite old, as I had a zero percent success rate with their seeds on two occasions.

As for herbal teas, you can make tea with so many edible plants!!! Lemon verbena is a particularly nice one, as is elderflower, using the dried flowers. Lavender makes a nice tea too. Chocolate mint is nice too!!! (Mentha piperita citrata)
