Name That Weed!

Name That Weed!
Do you know what these are? Any thoughts are welcome including diversions.

A. papery This is a shady spot on my lawn for several years. Is it fungus?

B. tufty weed

C. tall This is about 5ft tall with a red base to the stem. It's not always in the same place each day. Any ideas? Should I worry?

D. weed and mildew a weed and some kind of mildew on laurel leaves

E. two common weeds

So this is what you do in the middle of the night .

I recognise them all, as to giving them names.....

I can do C with ease.

It is Euphorbia Latyris, commonly known as the mole spurge or various names similar. It is said to repel moles. I have it planted all around my veggie patch and it worked pretty well untill a couple of days ago. Also it self seeds with abandon and I have been hoeing up babies for months now. Double !

A. Looks like dried leaves or seed pods on lawn. Can't really see very well.

B. I have that but have never bothered to look up what it is!

C. done above

D. Maybe some kind of dock? Mildew don't know, is it grey or black coloured?

E. First one is Jack by the Hedge - you can eat that. Google for more info. 2nd one not sure but I'm sure I've got it too!

B Seen it but dunno what it's called

NOT always in the same place everyday?? A triffid?? LOL

E - ooh more garlic WOW and is the second one rosebay willowherb?? Purple flowers??

And we have both of the E ones here in NZ too, but I don't know what they are. The first (edible?) one has little yellow flowers, though, doesn't it?

B looks fennel-ish or yarrow-ish

On second thoughts more yarrow (achillea) than fennel-ish.

does exhibit B smell when you crush/rub the foliage?? Any more clues??

I would say that it is Jarrow too. the romans used to use it for toothache. I drank a jarrow tea made from found jarrow the other day and it made my whole mouth numb

This is a quick response as I'm off to a pub quiz now.

A. It's like paper which is pale grey on the under side and dark grey on the top and curling up at the edges. It always looks dry and it's been there for some years. I took another picture earlier to help identify this which I'll post later. My digital camera isn't so good for close-ups but my 'proper' camera would take too long to get a picture to show you.

B. Magpie's link looks very much like it; I think that's it. Mine had drooped before I thought of snapping it.

C. Shirlz2005. A Triffid? I'll have to do something about it then - when I find it.
I'll also have to be more careful when creeping about at night slug hunting.

Not sure onA; B is yarrow, definitely; C is spurge (member of euphorbia family)D is a dock, going to seed and the two at the end are Jack-by-the-hedge aka mustard garlic and Rosebay willowherb - don't let that one seed.............

I'm not sure if this is the same as E now or not but is this the one I should definitely not allow to seed?

Is it lichen as suggested?

C must be lurking in the bushes but I'll find it and deal with it before any passing schoolchildren start disappearing.
