Aubergines?

Hi, I think I have an aubergine plant flowering now (I planted lots of different things at the same time and forgot to label some). It is a furry plant growing in a pot. the type of aubergine I planted is Ophelia. if it is aubergine I was just wondering if anyone knows if it will fruit or is it too late? Also its out in the open, should I transfer it to a mini greenhouse?

If it is an aubergine and it hasn't set fruit by now then I think you'll be lucky to get any now. Try popping it in the greenhouse and pray for good weather.

So sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I wonder if it'll keep over the winter if you bring it indoors? I've never tried it but it'd be worth the experiment if you have the space.

I had one aubergine plant in the polytunnel this year, not sure what sort, but I bought it as a plant from the local garden shop. I haven't seen it for seven weeks as I wasn't well and haven't been up to the polytunnel at all, and it was covered in tomato plants which hadn't been sideshooted. I uncovered it last week with loads of aubergines on it. My friends may have watered in there, but I think not very much at all. I can't believe it.

Hi all, Can anyone tell me why my Aubergines failed. I have them in the tunnel and lots of flowers, but, each time a flower bearing fruit forms, (And I mean a very small fruit) it imediatly starts to rot, I don"t know if the word "Rot" is right, it seems to die off from the back of the flower to the front and then falls off. Any help please?

It affects tomatoes, aubergines and peppers.

If it is any consolation, mine did the same - lovely, healthy huge plant with lots of flowers,but they all withered and died before the fruit started to form.

Everything else in the greenhouse - melons, cucumbers, peppers and toms were all fabulous this year, so I am putting it down to fate - ce la vie!

Thanks Henwoman. I planted the aubergine in a large box and I think the problem might that I used a peat based compost only. The website you recommended told me that without the addition of lime, the plant could"nt take in calcium. Next year I"ll plant in the border which has the proper PH. thanks again.
