Mincer/sausage maker

You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

Mincer/sausage maker

Post: # 245012Post Potter's Farm »

Does anyone have any idea as to where i can get a manually powered meat mincer and also a sausage machine? I have a kenwood chef which had the option of a mincer attachment but during a bread dough kneeding session it wobbled off the shelf and the the bit to fit the attachments to broke. I'd like to get manual machines as we try not to have too many electrically powered gadgets. Thanks everyone xx

Here's one http://www.onestopcookshop.co.uk/kitche ... 2357-p.asp
"The Italian Collection large Cast Iron Mincer is ideal for making your own mince from prime cuts of meat
Includes three discs for different sized mincing, a sausage making attachment and screw clamp fittings for a secure hold whilst in use"

I'm afraid I can't recommend that one, Marshlander. We had one and were only able to use it once before the screw thread holding it all together stripped bare! We bought it because it was a substantial looking but cheapish piece of kit - turned out to be just be cheaply made IMHO. Great idea though so we bought a really old mincer off fleabay, that doesn't have the same design problem.

There's one in Lakeland Ltd but it isn't cheap at £30 and I can't advise on use as I haven't got one, probably get one like it somewhere else cheaper. Perhaps asking on Freecycle for the broken bit for the Kenwood might get a result, good luck.

Maybe you were unlucky, Green Aura, we've had a once of their mincers for years no probs - or maybe not the same quality these days. :dontknow:
