Black Onion Seed.

Post: # 248701Post spider8 »

Has anyone ever used black onion seed or nigella seed in breadmaking? I'm always looking to try new things in the breadmaker and wondered what they tasted like if added. I've never used them before so what do they taste like and i assume you have to roast them first?

I add them to naan bread. Very nice, gives them a "genuine" flavour that the resturants have over the shop brought ones. We don't use a bread maker so don't know what effect it would have in a bread from a machine. Naan doesn't really suit a bread machine anyway, much better to grill on the highest possible setting your oven can manage.

Guess I'll have to give it a try and see. I've added other seeds and love a seeded loaf so next time I'll add soemof the onion seed too. Thanks clanpowell.

Can't see it would be any problem. I've only used it in naan bread too, but I think it would be rather nice in other breads.

Wouldn't fancy it with jam on though :pukeright:
