Goose a gander?

The whole reason for the selfsufficientish website was to offer a place where anyone can ask, HOW DO I...? So who knows why it has taken us so long to have a HOW DO I? section, but here it is. So if you want to know how to do anything selfsufficientish then here is the place to ask.

Goose a gander?

Post: # 253685Post doofaloofa »

can any one tell me how to tell a goose from a gander?

Our current gander is bigger than the geese, and has two lumps underneath (between the legs)to the one lump under the geese

Without knowing the breed,no.In general, though it will vary from breed to breed, and flock to flock, the male is far more aggressive than the goose. If one of them comes to challenge you it's usually the male.We had aflock of a couple of dozen up to a couple of years ago,and I've never really thought of it.If you've got to move them ,or they have to move across a paddock,in my experience the male takes the lead. We"ve got Geese and believe me, you soon find out which is which. We have a pair of geese, and at the moment her indoors is sitting on 9 eggs., and the gander attacks anything that move's within 5 yards of the shed, where as normally he only has a go at me on his bad days, he has now declared all out war, and I've got the bruise's to prove it. So don't worry he will soon show you who"s the BOSS.

Thanks for the replies

Its more the goslings that I need to sex as, as you have said an adult male is hard to mistake behaviorally(he's the one on top ;])

As to breed... well they're white, but were not sold to me as pure bred anything

Does anyone know of a anatomical gender test?
