I have just got the hang of baking bread by hand but don't know what's the best way.
I realise it will be at its best for a couple of days at best, I was keeping it in a Ziploc freezer bag to get the most out of it.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated
Many thanks
Phil

Re: Whats the best way to keep bread?
We don't get through loads of bread in our house so once it's fully cooled after baking we seal it in a plastic bag to take the crunch out of the crust and then next day it's sliced and frozen.

We keep ours in a big earthenware bread crock we picked up for a couple of quid years ago. I think it sort of "breathes" and it keeps homemade bread good for 4/5 days.

Re: Whats the best way to keep bread?
Always put bread cut-side down on either a plate or bread board before storing in a bread bin/crock or even a microwave or regular oven (but only when switched off
) A lot of Italian's use linen bread bags, which are also supposed to keep bread fresher longer.

Re: Whats the best way to keep bread?
a carrier bag keeps bread pretty fresh. Keep the crusty end of the loaf and then put it on the cut bit when you put it in the bag.
Just try to get one of the carriers without the breathing holes.

Many thanks folks,
I'll be using the bags until I get a nice clay bread crock.
Cheers folks
