I have today pricked out the tomatoes,cabbage and cauliflowers that I had started to grow on a windowsill in a covered propagator.
Now that I have done this I cant remember what I usually do!!
Do I put them in the trays back onto the windowsill or do I put them in the unheated polytunnel.
I know that I am a woman of a certain age but even I didnt think that my memory was this bad!!!

It rather depends upon that polytunnel. If you know that the temperatures inside will not go below freezing, then certainly get the brassicas out. For your tomatoes ... well, they need as much sunlight as they can get. On the other hand, if they get too cold they'll go purple and turn out no good (rather like people). I'd be tempted to put them in the tunnel in a covered seed tray, if you see what I mean.
If you leave them indoors for too long, they'll go leggy.
I'd definitely go for the polytunnel, but I'd hang on to see if anyone else on here screams in protest.

EDIT: Hang on - you're in Dorset, where everything grows like magic. Polytunnel it is, then.

With the Toms I would keep some indoors put some in the Polytunnel. Everything else put in the Polytunnel.

Whatever they are, I always mollycoddle mine for 3 or 4 days as pricking out is quite traumatic for seedlings and it gives them a bit of time to recover.
So I would keep them indoors until the middle of the week if it were me and then put them in the tunnel, but then that's just big old softy me.

Thanks Mike, think I will put them in a covered seed tray in polytunnel, I understand what you mean!!! I dont think it goes below to freezing level but I have never been out there in the dead of night and checked the thermometer!!!!

Umm, I don't profess to know much about tomatoes but I always thought the minimum night time temperature for them was about 12C or 52F, which is quite a bit above freezing level.

Thanks Tony Mike and Boboff I think I will try and mollycoddle them until the middle of the week and then put then in the ptunnel but keep a lid on them for a while.
