Fab new "toy"!

You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

Fab new "toy"!

Post: # 260536Post Mustardseedmama »

My dear husband recently (for my birthday) bought me a counter-top ice cream maker. I'm not much of one for a lot of gadgety-type-things, preferring old fashioned tools and elbow grease, but this this is terrific!

I can make my own ice cream, sorbet, granita, etc,...without ice, rock salt, or taking something out of the deep freeze every 20 minutes to stir it. The ice cream I make is all-natural, and less sugar, etc...and NO high fructose corn syrup, carageenan, etc.... I plug it in, take the freezer barrel out of the deep freeze, fill it with my chilled mixture, turn it on, and 10 minutes later I have a quart and a half of soft-serve deliciousness! Thank you Hubby!!

We've had a Gelata for some years now - ours has its own refrigeration unit, which makes it even more lazy. It's great this time of year because we can make mountains of vanilla icecream from our mountain of eggs. My daughter's best friend has cousins on Reunion and receives vanilla pods by the kilo which she divvies up amongst her nearest & dearest, which means we only need buy cream and a little sugar.
