This is the Portulaca grandiflora, not to be confused with Purslane, Portulaca oleracea, the edible plant. About 40 seedling were planted about two weeks ago. Eventually the bed will be a mass of blooms. They usually self seed from year to year. They are almost a must in any home garden. Never even think of watering, they like full Sun and very dry conditions. If it is too cloudy or raining the flowers refuse to open.
