Anyone grown Black Pepper from seed
Hi, I bought some black pepper seed from a supplier in Canada. They look a lot like the sort I put in the pepper mil, not sure if I have been ripped off. Anyway, I have soaked them, sowed them and they are in the propagator cooking away. So far nothing has happened, have I done anything wrong, has anyone got any experience of growing black pepper plants, for some reason I thought they might be red if they hadn't been prepared for culinary uses, any help or advice would be great thanks very much

For some reason I thought those were only grown in tropical areas?
What if you're wrong? What if there's more? What if there's hope you never dreamed of hoping for?

They are, but you can grow them as houseplants so I thought I would give them a go

If my memory serves me right the colours change as the corn dries, and therefore they should be ok.
I have seen a Sezhwhan pepper tree in Dartington Devon, producing wonderfull pepper, I think http://www.agroforestry.co.uk/forgndg.html
May have something to help you.

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.

Thanks Boboff, a good link. Have been delving a bit more, I think they grow them from cuttings in India commercially. I found somewhere that said abrade them with sulphuric acid, the wizard I live with has got some (??) but won't let me touch it, but he will do it for me. They need soaking for two minutes and then rinsing and planting, so will try that. They seem quite a difficult plant to get hold of too
